Hang In and Hang On

In this week’s lesson we talked about the fact that challenges will arise for all entrepreneurs on their journey. All entrepreneurs will face bumps in the road and setbacks during the course of their voyage.  These bumps and setbacks are critical to the journey, and can make individuals stronger if they are willing to embrace and push through them. A lot of individuals allow these setbacks and disappointments to cripple them and keep them from achieving their dreams. These hard times, if approached correctly, can be a time of great growth and learning. It is important to remember during those times of hardship that good things will come if they keep persevering.

In Elder Jeffrey R. Holland’s talk titled, “However Long and Hard the Road,” he spoke about the importance of hanging in and hanging on. Elder Holland talked about the disappointments and setbacks that students at BYU might be going through, and how they might feel like giving up. However, Elder Holland said, “I am asking you this morning not to give up ‘for ye are laying the foundation of a great work.’” This care and compassion demonstrated by Elder Holland really made an impression on me. There have certainly been times in my life when I have felt like giving up, and I’m sure there will be more times, but remembering to hold on because I am “laying the foundation of a great work” gives me strength. I hope that during the struggles and hardships that will come on my entrepreneurial journey that I remember to apply the words of Elder Holland and hang in and hang on.
